Is Life Harmony Truly Possible for You?
If you work in the corporate world or are an entrepreneur, do you feel something is blocking you on your path to success, to set better goals, reduce your stress levels, communicate better or just resolve those old issues that keep popping up?
You are in your office and sign in to a conference call with about fifty people and of course, as they are from the ‘other’ coast, the time is about 6:45 AM. You have already driven about an hour to get to work, which means you got up an hour before that! So, your day is almost half-done and the meeting has yet to start. Today at this meeting you are designated to ‘present’ your part of the project. You have worked hours if not days to get your part together and you are proud – for now. Then some smart-type person redoes the schedule, puts you at the end of the meeting, and when it is your turn, there is no time left for YOU!
Now what?
As a business professional, you’ve probably spent your entire life working hard to ensure you landed your dream job or business and provided for the people you love most. You spend countless hours of every day for weeks and months on end, overworking yourself in order to meet your goals and deadlines for your career. Unfortunately, you may have also noticed that you are feeling more and more stressed out, tired, and perhaps a little unmotivated and depressed. Thankfully, there are ways to help you get back on track to feeling like your old self, or even better. Here are some ways that you can achieve a healthy (and sane) life, all while feeling more peaceful, confident, and successful.
When working to achieve a more balanced life, a life with harmony and peace, between your personal life and professional life, it is important to remember to care for yourself first. Self-care is a major component of being successful in creating a more harmonious life. When you put yourself first, your priorities will change, your needs will be met, and everything will fall into place more naturally and for the better.
Always take time from the day for self-appreciation. Whether it be the first thing you do in the morning before starting your day, or the last thing you do before you shut your eyes for bed, it is crucial that you allow yourself to reflect on all the positive attributes and characteristics you have and to be truly grateful for them. This will help give you a sense of peace, gratitude, and abundance in your life. It will also be the gateway into realizing what you need to do for yourself in order to create a better life.
As you appreciate yourself, respecting yourself will come easily. You will not only start to take better care of your physical body through healthier dieting and moderate exercise, but your mental health will improve also. You won’t take anything less than you deserve, and you’ll see that it’s okay to forgive yourself for the mistakes you’ve made. You will also learn what you need from life, and step away from anything that no longer serves you positively, such as being taken advantage of or overworking yourself.
If a majority of your stress comes from work, there are a few things you can do: learn stress/anxiety management, and also time management.
Learn about techniques to reduce feelings of being stressed, anxious, and maybe even overwhelmed with work, such as breathing deeply and slowly, or even taking short breaks to walk outside in between your schedule. These methods will help you be more aware and mindful, allowing you to have sharper focus and more mental clarity, which will result in more work being done.
Knowing how to manage your time properly also helps reduce stress levels tremendously. Realistically speaking, one cannot work 10-12 hours a day for weeks on end without breaking down. Your body and brain need rest in order to function optimally for you to continue your profession and provide your best work. Make sure that you are giving yourself enough time to rest and recover and avoid overworking yourself. This will allow you to make the best of your time and allow you to be more productive when you actually do sit down and work.
On top of these important methods to create a better life, you can engage in activities that will provide you with more meaning and enrichment in what you do.
- Spend more time outdoors with nature
- Spend time with loved ones.
- Start (or continue!) daily meditation or yoga
This advice and support will help you to live a full, healthy and fun life, in harmony and peace.
These actions allow you to focus on YOU! which is vital when dealing with the stressful aspects of work/life balance.
To take the time to personally care for you is taking the time to be more confident and more successful at your profession and in your life.
Remember that example above when the time ran out for you to ‘present’ your findings’?
