Apple, Microsoft, Google, and Facebook, and other smaller companies, now tell employees to work from home to reduce the risk of the current virus – at least here in Seattle. Working from home during this time is big and I am sure rules are changing on a daily basis. In China, Japan, and South Korea, employees & contractors have been working remotely for quite a while as they had the results of the coronavirus sooner than the United States did.
Some companies say to self-quarantine; nice work if you can get I especially if you are healthy. No commuting! Yay!
On one hand, this is a smart move. On the other hand, not all of the Tech workers can work from home. Some who are now made to work from home, miss being with others such as the teams they participate in every day, live discussions about project issues and some even miss their large computer screen.
Remote working used to be a privilege; some are finding out that allowing employees and contractors to work remotely is beneficial to the business.
Some employees are more productive while working from home. Less stress, more creativity while the brain is not fettered with others’ issues – so many things that make it beneficial to work for home.
Of course, it would be much better if disease or health issues would not be the cause of working from home, however, it is an experiment on a grand scale, not necessarily for the right reasons, yet is happening.
These orders from headquarters could last as little as three more weeks or maybe more. We shall see.
It will be interesting to see this endgame result.
Are you working from home during this crisis?
Let me know how it’s going for you here.
