Every year about this time I watch specific episodes of Conan, with Conan O’Brien, when he is broadcasting from San Diego for San Diego Comic-Con. I enjoy finding out what new sci fi shows will be on TV as well as catch up with some great stars and movie information.

This year, I was impressed yet again with Tom Cruise. Tom was interviewed by Conan for the preview trailer of Top Gun: Maverick. It was an impressive trailer and so was the interview with Tom and Conan.

Just so you know, I like the Mission Impossible movie series and make no apologies for it. Tom Cruise is impressive in that he performs all his stunts and admitted during that interview that he is constantly learning how do develop a variety of skills that he had not known prior. He is a lifelong student.

He takes risks with these stunts, from scaling tall buildings, actually, Burj Khalifa in Dubai, at 2,722 feet above ground, the tallest building in the world, to being strapped to an A400 plane while in the air. Amazing displays of courage. In his latest film, he flies a jet plane. A big one. A Boeing F/A-18 Super Hornet. No stunt doubles anywhere. Tom performed one stunt in an MI film where he broke his ankle during the stunt and kept going until the scene was complete.

Then I look at myself and think about what risks am I not taking in my life and my business. There is always something more to learn, to apply, to overcome, and no, I will not be paid the fees that Tom Cruise receives, yet I know that I can do more, stretch myself yet again.

What about you? Can you stretch yourself, take more courses, find a mentor, take a risk in your life? What’s stopping you from even thinking about it? Tom Cruise is only human and so are you. Gather up your courage and learn something new and different soon and climb your own Burj Khalifa.
